I’ve been grinding organic whole farro in my vitamix and making it into a cream of wheat style cereal. The ratio is one parts farro to three parts milk. I’ve looked around the internet and I don’t see anyone using it that way. But, me and my husband love it. I just thought I’d leave this comment in case people are looking for other ways to consume this wonderful healthy grain.

I love the way the farro turned out with this method of cooking! I’m using it as a substitute for rice in a fried rice dish so I didn’t want the gummy/creamy-ness (which I’m totally okay with when I’m eating it as porridge).

Hi Carol, if moisture got in the bags, that can definitely cause farro to spoil. Farro should keep for 6 months if stored in an airtight container in the pantry, or up to a year if you freeze the grains uncooked.

I have been given lots of organic farro in plastic bags. There seems to be some moisture in the bags. It does not seems to keep very well. I see blue mold in the bags. Can I freeze the farro without cooking it so that I can make it last longer. I like the taste and chewyness of it and use it as a substitute for oatmeal.
