Kate, may I ask if you adopted Cookie from somewhere? I use your recipes all the time – they serve as a kind of north star for me on the internet when I’m looking for inspiration for a meal. I would love to honor Cookie with a little donation to a rescue or maybe a canine cancer society if she wasn’t a rescue.

I realize it has been some time since you lost your beloved Cookie but I just want to say that your tribute message to her is wonderful. My wife and I have rescued and had to say goodbye to 11 dogs over the years. Every loss has been terribly difficult but we really can’t conceive of our life without dogs so we happily keep adopting (we currently have 3). I love y0ur recipes and have been making your Favorite Veggie Burgers for many years. I always make a 3x or 4x batch and have them on hand in the freezer, they are so convenient. It is the very best veggie burger recipe I know of. Thank you!

I made your vegetarian chili tonight (delicious) and stumbled upon this post. I was wondering how cookie was doing or how old she was at this point, and just saw that she passed away in 2023. As I sit here with my soon to be 13 year-old pup, your post reminded me to appreciate every moment I have with him. I’m sorry for your loss, but glad you had so many great years with her! Thank you for the amazing recipes on your blog.

Dear Kate,

I just noticed that sweet Cookie is now memorialized here. I lost my dear Molly girl who also was my “first baby” this year. How wonderful to have a pure soul witness our life happening as we’re busy making big plans.

Thank you for this great resource, I always come here first when our produce box arrives. I’ve got more butternut squash than I know what to do with at the moment and so I came here, and now I’m in tears remembering my own sweet Molly – who also tasted more than I offered. She literally would eat anything.

I wish you could have 13 more years with her.
