I am veg, my family is not. Wow! This was fantastic. Discovered halloumi cheese for a bean recipe last month and love it. Very similar to nabulsi, bread cheese. I will repeat this one!! Extra pepper was key. Thanks.

In reply to randy. Check the label for all cheeses. If it reads animal rennet, it is not vegetarian. It should read microbial or vegetable rennet.

We just got back from Scotland, where we discovered halloumi sandwiches — they’re everywhere. So delicious and so easy to make. It’s common to find avocado on them there, along with the ingredients you include. We found halloumi at our everyday grocery store, even in rural NH. My husband isn’t a huge fan of mayo. Is there a different dressing you’d suggest? I saw one reader used hummus, but I’m not in love with that combo. Thanks!

I love the idea of Halloumi as a bacon substitute. But when I tried browning the halloumi it melted! I managed to get it out of the pan fairly fast so it was still more flat than a ball, and the flavour was great, but after heating it wasn’t really a ‘slice’ any more.
Not a problem, but I’d been wondering if you could cut Halloumi into small pieces, fry them crisp and then use like bacon bits. Alas, that’s not going to work.
but the Halloumi flavour is a great bacon substitute so thank you!
