Hi Raina, I haven't tested this in an instant pot. I believe the general method would be to sauté the aromatics, then add liquid and other ingredients, pressure cook for about 8-10 minutes, then add in beans at the end after venting. I don't find this method simpler so I don't use my Instant Pot for these types of recipes.

Hi Judi, I don't cook with meat, but I think you could add ground beef with the aromatics and cook that before finishing it off.

My Husband, my 86 year old mother and I Absolutely LOVED this recipe. Followed mostly to a T at least spice wise and bean wise. I added diced mushrooms. You can really substitute or add in whatever veggies you like! I used better than bouillon vegetable base ( 2 tsp to 2 cups water for the broth) this recipe is a keeper. Thanks for sharing!!

Hi NJ,

I mean 100% pure powdered dried chili peppers (like cayenne, ancho, or chipotle) or a blended American chili powder spice mix, not a chili seasoning blend that would contain onion, cumin, garlic, etc. I like a brand Penzy's, Morton & Bassett, or the Frontier Co-op or Whole Foods 365 blend. There are speciality chili powders, but any you like the flavor of will work for this recipe.

This looks delicious and I'm looking forward to trying it. I have a question about the chili powder: Do you mean a blended chili powder (including things like cumin, onion and garlic powders and various herbs) or a pure chili powder such as cayenne pepper? Either way, do you have a preferred brand or type for this dish? Thanks.

I've made this several times and this is by far the best chili we've ever had! We added some red lentils, beyond meat, and corn to it this last time around which really completed it for us. Thank you!

I've been making this recipe for years- often doubling to take camping. I have 3 young adult children and they will often have their meat-eating, fast food loving friends with them, and it is always finished off. I'm actually here now because my youngest asked for the recipe so that she can prepare it to take camping!
